    LED LCD Monitors Are Friendlier On The Environment And Consume 50-70% Less Energy

    Two of the most popular computer monitors and televisions on the market today are LED and LCD displays.  What many people don't under understand however is, "What's the difference between LED vs LCD"?  If you have owned a desktop computer over the last decade then you may be familiar with LCD monitors, but you may not be aware exactly how LEDs fit in to the picture.  LCD displays have been available for decades and were once the most popular type of monitor used for desktop computers.  In fact, "CCFL LCD" monitors are still available today along with CRT monitors.

    The newest introduction in to the computer monitor field involves LEDs as the source for "back lighting" of LCD displays. These powerful "light emitting diodes" are rapidly changing the design and functionality of not only computer monitors, but also HDTVs as well.  An older style LCD display will utilize CCFL's for backlighting and although they can produce a nice quality monitor or TV, LEDs are superior in almost every aspect.  On a recent trip to the mall, I went to the local electronics store to see for myself, just how advanced LED LCD monitors have become.  The first thing I noticed with LED monitors is how bright they are, which allowed me to see the screen much better.  They also seemed to have less refection off the screen, making for a far superior viewing experience.  However I wanted to make sure this was the case and not just isolated to a few models.  After spending a good half hour looking at every CCFL LCD monitor and comparing them to every LED LCD monitor, it was clear that my first observances were correct.  LED LCD monitors were far more enjoyable to watch with brighter screens, less refection and better clarity of the images.  I actually came to the conclusion that in my mind at least, it was really no contest.  There was a crystal clear winner when comparing LED vs LCD monitors. (No pun intended)

    The next feature that I wanted to see for myself was thickness of the display.  I already knew that LED LCD monitors were going to be thinner, but I wanted to see by how much.  In this case, the thickness of the LCDs varied quite a bit, with some being relatively thin, and others being somewhat bulky.  Price seemed to be the determining factor.  What I mean by that is, cheaper LCD displays were usually pretty thick and bulky, while some of the more expensive units were almost as thin as the LED LCDs.  It is important to note that although the LCDs were thicker as a whole, they are still much thinner than the CRT Monitors.  Also, you probably won't find a CRT monitor in your local "Best Buy store" or Walmart.  They have been pretty much phased out.  I did however see a few CRT monitors on sale at Amazon.  Then I went to look at the LED LCD monitors to see just how thin these are being made today.  Again price seemed to be a driving factor, however virtually everyone was quite thin.  The "higher end" monitors were amazingly thin.   In fact, I found myself just sitting there looking at the LED monitors in amazement.  Some of these monitors are around a 1/2 inch thick, or less!  The picture quality was so good, and they are so thin, that you just find yourself wondering how they do it.  They really are a technological breakthrough.  The funny part is that the widest part of the monitor was where the cords were plugged in.  However some of the manufacturers have even designed ways around that as well. 

    If you are trying to figure out this whole "LED vs LCD" thing, it's actually pretty simple.  LED LCD monitors and HDTVs are better all the way around.  However don't take my word for it, go out and take a look at them for yourself.  Just looking at them will give you a pretty clear picture of which one looks like the better monitor.  If you want to get in to the technical aspects of them, I think you will find that LEDs are the way to go there too.  The fact is that LEDs are here to stay for the for quite a while, and they are only going to keep getting better.  In fact, the next monitor you buy might even be an OLED monitor, which will blow you away even more with it's paper thin design.
